In the 36 days from March 12 to April 16, I have walked (a reported) 608,675 steps between China and Japan. Over half a million! Imagine doing something over half a million times. I couldn’t. But here I am. Maybe it’s easier if you don’t think too hard about it. Here are some of my days with the longest walks.

March 16, 2025: 29446 [Nanjing, CN]

• Headed to the 中山陵 [Sun Yat-Sen Mausoleum].
• Walked around the area on the mountain, to the 明孝陵 [Xiao Mausoleum] as well as 梅花山 [Plum Blossom Hill]
• Through 夫子庙 [Confucian Temple], the surrounding area, and the Imperial Examination Musuem

March 17, 2025: 25396 [Nanjing, CN]

• Grabbed some yummy breakfast downstairs consistening of 油条 and 豆浆
• Took the subway/bus to 牛首山 and walked around the grounds
• Walked around the 报恩塔 which was okay
• Afterwards went to the city walls and did a little tour
• Bussed to 玄武湖 and walked around the lake

March 24, 2025: 17078 [Huangshan, CN]

• This day isn’t as large numerically, but easily the most treacherous :)
• Hiked up to the top of 黄山 from the back path starting from 云谷寺. The front mountain wasn’t open due to damage but it would’ve been about double the distance

March 31, 2025: 31158 [Shanghai, CN]

• Started from 人民广场 [People’s Square]
• Walked down 南京路 [Nanjing Road] to the the Bund
• Made my way down the Bund, taking the Ferry across and walking up to Oriental Pearl Tower
• Went up the tower, and returned on the same path in reverse

April 1, 2025: 24905 [Suzhou, CN]

• Walked around the 拙政园 [Humble Administrator’s Garden] and the surrounding area
• More steps walking from and to the Suzhou train station

April 6, 2025: 25957 [Yasu, JP]

• I ended up in Yasu to retreive a backpack
• Decided to spend a day walking around in a non-touristy area
• Walked to the park by the river, and then walked to Moryiama (next stop on the Kyoto A line)
• Took subway to Otsu and walked briefly along the lake, visiting the beginning of the Lake Biwa Canal

April 7, 2025: 31942 [Kyoto, JP]

• Started the day walking from Gion to Maruyama Park
• Wandered in the park and the surrounding temples before walking back to Gion for lunch
• Headed over to the Philosopher’s Path
• Visited Nanzen-ji and ended on the Keage Incline by accident

April 8, 2025: 31478 [Kyoto, JP]

• Did the Kyoto thing and went to Fushimi Inari
• Walked a side path and saw this “waterfall”
• Returned by way of the normal route
• Took the bus to Kinka-ji
• Had “dinner” around Nishiki Market, visiting some nearby shops. Didn’t end up buying anything though :c
• Strolled aimlessly around the area, and ended up walking all the way to the Imperial Palace

April 9, 2025: 26291 [Kyoto, JP]

• Went back to the Imperial Palace at a time it was actually open
• Headed to Osaka, and walked through Kema sakuranoymia Park for the Cherry Blossoms
• Camped out and read until sunset before heading back

April 11, 2025: 24949 [Nara, JP]

• Walked around Umeda [Osaka] and visited the Pokemon Center
• Hit up Round1 to show Theo around and have him teach me sound voltex
• Took the train to Nara and walked to Kofuku-ji and then to Nara Park
• Stayed once again until sundown before attempting to walk to the historic imperial palace in Nara
• It was definitely not open and Google Maps had me walk some incredibly suspicious roads
• Browsed a Japanese Supermarket instead

April 15, 2025: 25857 [Tokyo, JP]

• Started the day out in Ueno Park
• Walked around Ueno, Akhibara, Ginza for some shopping
• Shibuya Crossed (no Kole unfortunately)

April 16, 2025: 24738 [Tokyo, JP]

• Visited Shinjuku Gyeon National Garden
• Headed to Skytree for sunset
• Walked the 2 miles home
